Book One & Two | Composed by Yusef Lateef

“Mr. Yusef Lateef's Flute Book of the Blues and The Repository of Scales and Melodic Patterns have had a profound affect upon my growth as a flutist and composer. His new book, 123 Duets for Treble Clef Instruments, is a remarkable gift to the musical world from one of the greatest artists of the Twentieth-Century, a visionary with vast knowledge of global music.”
- James Newton

User Reviews:

"For the intermediate to advanced flute student, this book adds excitement and interest to augment the student's typical scales, etudes, harmonics and classical pieces. It is also of value to the professional musician.

Yusef's books, Flute Book of the Blues, Books 1 & 2, are now combined into a single volume. Each "book" includes 36 scores of blues pieces for the flute, with the melody line and chord letters. Book 1 is all twelve-bar blues in twelve different major keys. The pieces are grouped by key. Book 2 has both twelve-bar and sixteen-bar blues, covering both major and minor keys, and additional harmonic structures. (Note that these are jazz blues pieces, rather than folk blues).

The author, the late Dr. Yusef Lateef, was one of the fathers of jazz flute. He was a prominent jazz musician, author and educator, and was the recipient of a Grammy Award."
- David Diamond

"Mr.Yusef Lateef's "Flute Book of the Blues 1& 2 is a gem, a treasure of Gold and Diamonds. This book fills the void of a lost art, the Blues Tradition. Many young musicians can not play the blues, therefore you can not feel the substance of the music. Blues has been the foundation of JAZZ and the blues element is found to a degree in the majority of music, it is in all music. Mr Yusef Lateef presents to you the Nuts and Bolts of the Blues. Do not wait! Get the book as soon as possilble (asap). It will open up your ears to true music."
- Robert Smith

"Yusef Lateef has a great approach to music, that is put forth in a way all can appreciate. Intermediate to Advanced students can readily benefit from with the familiarity of jazz scales and technique that this book helps develop."
- Tim Lafferty

"Invaluable, lots of good ideas and turn arounds, phrasing, solo construction. I really can't recommend it enough, sounds totally cool at any tempo."
- J. Player
